Steven Labkoff Scores a Perfect 27 for his Image “Timing is Everything” in November’s Competition

Here is Steven’s remarks about the image:

During the full moon rise during the month of October, which is also known as the harvest moon, I was driving back from Philadelphia and noticed that I was going to time it just about perfectly to be in Hoboken, New Jersey during the moonrise. So I redirected off the Jersey Turnpike drove into Hoboken and set up on the waterfront. I lined everything up using the photographers ephemeris application.  I then proceeded to shoot bracketed shots of the moonrise because the difference in brightness between the moon and the Empire State building is a minimum of 10 stops difference. I’ve tried this before but never was such excellent results. I then took the image of the bright moon and the image of the bright building, and I blended them together to get one perfect exposure out of over 400 shots. I did find a pair that matched pretty much perfectly and the results are shown. It’s very difficult to make these types of images because of the difference and brightness inevitably that the shots where you have the moon exposed properly the building is too dark for you and for the images where the buildings exposed properly the moon is generally blown out.
