Two Images Score a Perfect 27 in Our April Club Competition
The Stamford Photography Club’s April Competition saw two images receiving a perfect score of 27 from our three judges for this event. The two images are highlighted below, along with a short “behind the image” remark by the photographer:

This image was constructed by using real eggs. Their contents were blown out by putting pin holes at the ends and the contents were my breakfast. The eggs together were then balanced with the help of table salt. The tiny crystals of salt act as rocks that then helped to balanced the eggs in place. The scene was made on top of 2 foam core boards held up like a small stage. Lume cubes were used to illuminate the eggs. Keeping them all in balance was absolutely a challenge. But in the end, it worked. ~Steve

This was a planned photo shoot with some members of the Club – Chris Wisker, Steve Labkoff and myself. This is on the Rockland side of Nyack up a mountain road in Nyack off of highway 9w, where the moon lined up with the bridge. I had only brought my 500mm lens and it ended up being too much focal length for the scene. But, that got me thinking a bit on how to construct this scene to make the final image with the equipment in hand. This is 3 horizontal images stacked vertically. The lower image was the long exposure image to smooth out the vehicle lights on the bridge. The middle image captured the tops of the spires of the bridge and midground light spires and the top image captured the moon on a quick exposure to avoid blurring the moon. I stacked the layers in Photoshop and came up with this final image.
The bonus was the bridge lighting. We had not known that the lights were for a special event “Holi.” The colors of the bridge I think added greatly to the scene vs the standard monotone blue the bridge normally is lit. ~David
