SPC Presents “Abstraction” by Deb Bohren, Wednesday November 17, 7:15 p.m.
The Stamford Photography Club is pleased to welcome Photographer Deb Bohren for a virtual presentation:
ABSTRACTION
Wednesday, November 17 at 7:15 p.m.
via Zoom online meeting
Abstraction is a great way to challenge and push yourself as a photographer to move beyond those iconic, but all too familiar and easily reproduceable, picture postcard perfect travel images. But what makes a successful abstract image and how does it relate to travel photography? Bohren will start us off with an overview of the roots of abstraction in art and photography, help us begin to think abstractly when we have a camera in hand, identify some of the advantages of abstraction when you are on the road, and review some of the specific photographic techniques, both in camera and in post processing, that should be in every abstract photographer’s toolkit.

Deborah Loeb Bohren won her first photography contest when she was in the 6th grade at P.S. 27 in Yonkers, NY, and photography has been a part of her life ever since. A former corporate communications pro, she has been pursuing her passion for photography full-time since 2012. Her work is part of private/individual and corporate collections across the country. Bohren thinks of her work as a visual alchemy, a transformation not of matter, but of color, light, line and gesture through the use of intentional camera movement (ICM) and in-camera multiple exposures to create iconic and abstract images that reveal the essence, emotion and soul of the places she’s been and the things that she’s seen. She believes her images tell a story of what has been, what is, what will — or can — be, even if that isn’t visible to the naked eye, with each representing a unique moment in time, space and mind.

This meeting will be held virtually via Zoom. Non-members interested in joining us for this presentation, please email wbgordon24@gmail.com to be sent an invite link.
